Aqua Guard--16/06/08
Name :Aqua Guard
Civilization : Water
Mana cost :1
Race :Liquid People
Type :Creature
Rules :Blocker (Whenever an opponent's creature attacks , you may tap this creature to stop the attack. Then the two creature battle.)
This creature can't attack.
Power :2000
Mana number :1
Rarity :Common
Set :Shadowclash of Blinding Night
"This ocean ain't big enough for the two of us."
Aqua Guard is a cool creature who belongs to the mysterius Water civilization. It's a Liquid People which is the most common race in Water realms. This card is extremely popular for the duelists for it's cheap mana cost and evolution bait. It's my personal favourite too.
Aqua guard is a blocker with 2000 power for just 1 mana cost. Isn't it cheap ? Most of the Water creatures are quite costly rather than their power. Such as - Aqua Bouncer, Shooter, King Coral etc. Aqua Guard is cheaper than all of them and it's power is also high than it's mana cost. Aqua Shooter is similar to it's power but Shooter's mana cost is 4. I think, everyone will agree with me that every DM cards have at least one weakness or disadvantage. For Aqua Guard, it's main disadvantage is ,it can't attack !But King Coral ,Shooter , Bouncer -they all can attack. Thats why their mana cost is high. Marine Flower is totally similar to Aqua Guard but it's race is not that common.
Aqua Guard is normally used for early defence and evolution. Because of it's cheap mana cost, it can be summoned in the very first turn. So, it's affective against quick attacking decks. Later in the game, if you use a Light/Water deck, you can power up your Aqua Guard by summoning Petrova. 6000 power by just 1 mana cost. Cool , isn't it ?
Aqua Guard is also a good Evolution bait. If you have Aqua Guard and a Liquid People evolution card in your hand, there is a good chance to summon that evolution creature in one turn. Paladin and Spinslicer can be summoned easily by this way.Crystal Jouster and Lancer's mana is 6, so it's difficult to summon them within one turn. In order to summon Jouster in every turn, it will be easy to summon it using Aqua Guard as a bait because it will cost total 7 which is the cheapest cost to summon it- same goes to Lancer. Most people like Aqua Vehicle as an evolution bait but Aqua Guard is cheapest of them all.
Every cheap blocker have some common weaknesses. Crimson Hammer , Comet missile, Critical Blade, Death smoke etc.-these spells have made to pwnz cheap blockers like Aqua Guard. Larba Geer , Paladin, Scarlet Skyterror, Rikabu's Screwdrive etc. are also affective against blockers.
Example Deck :
Aqua Guard x4
Aqua Vehicle x4
Aqua Hulcus x4
Aqua Surfur x3
Crystal Paladin x3
Crystal Spinslicer x3
La Ura Giga x4
Jil Warka x3
Petrova x3
Mist Rias x3
Holy Awe x4
Spiral Gate x4
Energy Stream x3
Total=45 cards.
Advantages :
1. Very cheap.
2. Playable for any mono or multi Water deck.
3. Affective against quick attacking decks.
4. Good evolution bait.
Disadvantages :
1. It can't attack.
2. Small ammount of power.
Overall rating : 8/10

Good job on the article. 7.5/10. You could have elaborated it, though. 7 for Aqua Guard. Moved.

9 for article, 10 for card. Aqua Guard remains my most favourite one-drop creature. I use it as a staple in almost all my decks containing water.

Hmmm... 9 for the article, 8 for the card. Good job, dark_boy.
