Soul Phoenix, Avatar of Unity (20/06/2008)
SOUL PHOENIX, AVATAR OF UNITY
NAME: Soul Phoenix, Avatar of Unity
MANA: 4
POWER: 13000
RULE TEXT: - (This creature is put into your mana zone tapped.)
- Vortex evolution – Put on one of your Fire Birds and one of your Earth Dragons.
- Triple breaker (This creature breaks 3 shields.)
- When this creature would leave the battle zone, only the top card leaves the battle zone instead. (Separate the other cards into 2 creatures.)
FLAVOR TEXT: -
SET: DM-12 Thrash of the Hybrid Megacreatures
RARITY: Very Rare
CIVILIZATION: Fire / Nature
RACE: Phoenix
TYPE: Vortex Evolution Creature
REG. NO.: 5/55
Overall Rating: 9.5 / 10
POWER- At first sight you may think “what the ……!!!!!! 4 mana for 13k power????” but when you read it you will see its true colours. The only very rare vortex evo in DM-12, this has ironically the highest power! And the cheapest and highest power would signify it is one of the best.
EFFECTS- What about its other effect? If it lets you only return or destroy Soul Phoenix, you can actually keep the fire bird and earth dragon. Combos! Cocco Lupia and someone else can give you a Bombazar or a Bolmeteus soon……
The only set back is that there is not much of control here. But being the CHEAPEST triple breaker in all of 27 sets, it is worth it.
CIVILIZATION/RACE- F&N is all the rage nowadays. I have Soul Phoenix and I know infinite combos with it. You can jump on with a cheap Earth Dragon as temporary bait then you can make use of the Fire Bird afterwards. Fire birds are also popular. Too bad Phoenixes have little support (there are only 2 in English…) but look out for Ultimate Galaxy Universe (evolves from purely Phoenix) in DM-22 and DM-20’s tri-evo Super Divine Star Lila Bolstorm – they have 17000 and 18000 power respectively, cost only 5 and are worth $70!!!!!
The Good: I can kill anything!!!! No trespassing for Billion, Headlong, Alphadios, Ultimate Galaxy or Bolstorm unfortunately…
The Bad: I got killed by an Hourglass Mutant!
P.S. Suen Wai Lun (aka the Monitor) did it!!!
The Ugly: A 4 mana 41000 power creature with 49000 power on opponent’s turn and 57000 power on opponent’s turn with Unity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Artwork: 10/10 It looks legendary and cool!
Limited: 8.5/10
Even with a normal casual deck Soul Phoenix can still be darn useful. I tried it with my deck which is not built around anything (planning to build around Bolmeteus or Tsunami), and it works!
Constructed: 10/10
Perfect combo master!
Overall Rating: 9.5/10

Re: Soul Phoenix, Avatar of Unity (20/06/2008)
Good article, I give it a 8/10. However, Soul Phoenix cannot combo well compared to the other Avatars, that's why its a v-rare. Furthermore, Soul Phoenix NEEDS support. It is only good for destruction. Normally, people would add Soul Phoenix into a Dragon Deck as an extra. Decks revolving Soul Phoenix are rare as Soul Phoenix has very little combos. Although I HAVE to admit, its artwork is pretty cool.
